Look… I get it. You’re excited. You want to click buttons, make money, feel alive, and prove to your spouse that this isn’t “just another one of your little hobbies.”
But jumping into a brand-new options strategy with real money before paper-trading it is the trading equivalent of reading one airplane manual, watching a YouTube video, and then hopping into a 747 like:
“How hard can it be? If I just start trading with real money before backtesting and paper trading - that will help me learn best. "Trading with real money helps teach us BEST. Real money real pain.”
Cue the nose-down smoking crater in the dirt.
No new pilot — not even a caveman pilot — would do that.
Real pilots study the material, practice in a flight simulator, learn the quirks, the feel, the nuance.
They start slow.
They earn their confidence one safe landing at a time.
Yet somehow in trading, people skip all that and then act shocked when they auger into the financial earth and declare:
“This strategy doesn’t work!”
“This is a total scam!”
That’s like staring at a wrecked airplane and announcing, “Flying is a scam.”
Friend… planes fly.
Your crash happened because you skipped the part where you learn how to fly the thing.
So here’s the smart pilot checklist — pin this to your forehead if necessary:
Study the material
Actually understand the logic, the purpose, the edges, the risks.
Backtest it
See how the plane behaves in different weather before you leave the runway.
Paper trade it
Get the feel. Learn the rhythm. Make the dumb mistakes for free.
After you backtest it & paper trade it, start with real money slowly
- 1 contract XSP
- Then 2… then 3… gradually
- Only after consistent success should you move to 1 contract SPX, then scale from there
Because what you want is controlled, repeatable, boring, elite-pilot precision — not a flaming lawn dart and a Discord message about how "Using real money helps us learn the best."
If you ignore all this, that’s fine — but don’t blame the plane.
