This past week, I did one of my favorite things:
I took some of my trading profits…and turned them into a family adventure

Not another toy.
Just time together.
And since it’s Christmas?
We went to see A Christmas Story.
Not streaming.
Not “ultra-remastered.”
But on an original 35mm print at the old famous Vista Theatre down in Hollywood — the old Egyptian-style theater that Quentin Tarantino saved from demolition and restored back to its 1940s glory days...
(see video above).
Before the movie started they showed some old cartoons first.
Then some old movie trailers.
It was glorious.
For two hours, it honestly felt like we stepped back in time.
Have you seen A Christmas Story?
If not, I highly recommend it.
I always like to say it’s the Stand By Me of Christmas movies — nostalgic, hilarious, and authentic in a way that makes you cringe and laugh at the same time.
Ralphie wants a Red Ryder BB gun more than anything.
And everyone tells him the same thing:
“You’ll shoot your eye out, kid.”
His mom says it.
His teacher says it.
Even Santa says it.
It seems like everyone knows exactly how his BB gun dream will end.
But Ralphie still wants it anyway.
I think that line just might be the best piece of risk-management advice ever put into a movie — and it applies to trading perfectly.
Most traders don’t fail because they’re dumb.
They fail because they ignore their rules at the exact moment they want something too badly.
Oversizing.
Revenge trading.
“I know I shouldn’t, but I bet I can get away with just this once…”
And — boom.

Protection first — profits second.
